The Graveyard Gimlet

The Graveyard Gimlet

Hello Aether,

As we prepare for a Halloween sans costume parties and bowls of questionable punch, it’s time for us to figure out what we’re going to make at home to bring on the spirits. To the mix, I humbly submit the Graveyard Gimlet. This is the newest house special from the Dungeon Barkeep YouTube project I’ve been working on since September. I partnered with my friend and fraternity brother, Leland Fischer to design this cocktail based upon a name suggestion from Richard Kniażuk from the Machine Culture podcast network.

I’m really enjoying continuing to upskill with video editing and multiple camera production. I’m still working with webcams, so there are some challenges et to overcome but overall I’m still continuing to find new ways to shoot and produce. This week I shot with the intention of adding V.O. in post and that was fun. I got a lot of inspiration from fellow YouTube cocktail maestro, How to Drink.

If you’d like to have this delicious cocktail yourself on the day, you’ll want to have the following on hand:

  • Gin

  • Fresh Lime

  • Bitters

  • Vanilla Simple Syrup*

    • 3 vanilla beans

    • sugar

*If you’re feeling fancy, you can make your own vanilla simple and I recommend it for robust flavor and floaty vanilla seeds. Otherwise, Torani vanilla syrup should be a passable alternative.

To make your own vanilla simple syrup, Cut open three vanilla beans lengthwise. Spread them open and scrape the specks into one cup of sugar. I found the back of a spoon to work best for this. Try to get the vanilla specks distributed evenly into the solid sugar particles, but no worries if you can’t. Then add 3/4 cup of hot (not boiling water) and stir until all is dissolved. You should still see specks floating.
