Hey, I'm Ansel Burch,

I'm Hannah lane,

and I'm Tori Brewton,

Ansel Burch 0:08

and it's time to party. We are not doctors. We don't give medical advice. Please drink responsibly. This episode was recorded on December 15, 2025 Oh, welcome to the pod, everybody. Some of you longtime listeners will notice that we are we are short of Ben today. Not to worry. He is having a great time driving cross country, as he is like to do these days. So we have to grace us as special guests. We have the amazing Hannah and Tori from the total saps podcast. Do you guys want to give us, like, a quick little like pitch for what total saps is, as though I don't know, as though I haven't been in the room the whole time right?

Tori Brewton 0:53

As though you haven't been doing the entire production this entire time

Speaker 1 0:58

Hannah's been doing the editing.

Hannah Lane 1:01

So hi, total saps. We're a podcast where we talk about romantic movies that have been typically called chick flicks, and we yap about them. So one might say we yap about SAP. That's one way of describing it. Tori, how would you describe it? Can confirm

Ansel Burch 1:25

the accurate

Tori Brewton 1:26

I was just gonna say we yap about sab I mean, yeah, we're taking the chick flicks said in air quotes. And some of them are really popular, well known, some of them are a little bit more obscure. I guess it just depends on what your taste is. And dissecting them, it's fun, yeah, yeah, well, and

Unknown Speaker 1:49

we love, love, right?

Ansel Burch 1:50

What? What has been your favorite movies that you've watched so far for the show Roman Holiday?

Tori Brewton 1:55

Probably because that was new to me. And, well, I mean, yeah, okay, sorry,

Ansel Burch 2:02

what? It was a

Tori Brewton 2:02

good movie, whatever. Man it was. Really enjoy it. I did enjoy it, and I liked how it ended too, a little bit on the realistic side. I think I would have been like, annoyed if they ended up together. So, yeah, that was my favorite one because I'd never seen it. It was my first time viewing it. You know, I'll say that. What about you?

Hannah Lane 2:25

Hannah, uh, well, I liked most of the movies we've seen. And so the the ones that I'm gonna say, the ones that I haven't seen before,

Tori Brewton 2:35

also I will say, Can I can I give another answer to like this is, in addition to the holiday thing, which is, I loved our rewatch of or No, actually, it was your first time viewing How to Lose a Guy in 10 days. That was exciting for me, because I remember not really thinking, this is it as a child, and re watching it as an adult with fresh eyes. I was like, Yeah, that's right. You were right. That shit was whack.

Ansel Burch 3:08

Validation of your childhood opinion

Tori Brewton 3:11

correct, which feels good. I mean, I It feels good.

Hannah Lane 3:15

It is also validating to know that I was correct into not wanting to watch it. I would say my favorite movies that we've seen that were new to me. I really loved before sunrise, and I also really loved only lovers left alive, which I've been wanting to watch for a while. But Roman Holiday is always going to be some of my like, top tier romance, and I will be a staunch defender of it. Happened one night, for people that don't call it a romance. Tory just made a face. Making a face the viewers, for the listeners, for the lovely listeners for the time. Likes to

Ansel Burch 3:54

call them dear readers. So don't feel too

Hannah Lane 3:56

for the dear readers, right? No, but here's the thing, I'm a sucker for a romance, and as long as, like, it seems like they seem good, I can usually just defy anything that's not entirely true. But like, I know I made this pot. We're doing this podcast because we genuinely like watching movies, just like Time to party, just

Ansel Burch 4:21

like this podcast. It's almost as though it's a good topic for a podcast. If you're out there thinking, God, I could make a podcast like that, you're right. You could, yeah,

Hannah Lane 4:31

but um, also maybe collab with us, absolutely,

Ansel Burch 4:35

yeah, especially if you already got one with followers and stuff. Hey. So I am so excited to have you guys on the pod today, because we are talking about a really cool romance movie. This film is, well, those of you who chose this, instead of just having it come up on your pod catcher randomly will know already that we're talking about the 2016 film. Your name this movie? Is one that flew under my radar for a long time, until a friend recommended it a few years ago, and it got on our list, and it's been sitting there quietly ever since our friends at IMDb say that it is a story of two teenagers who share a profound, magical connection. Upon discovering they are swapping bodies, things manage to become even more complicated when the boy and girl decide to meet in person, which, yeah, that covers it.

Unknown Speaker 5:27

Why are you saying so much IMDB?

Ansel Burch 5:30

Hey, honestly, for IMDb, that's a pretty solid.

Tori Brewton 5:33

I was gonna say that's pretty that's

Ansel Burch 5:35

pretty solid. They, they've got some real stinkers on there, let me tell you,

Unknown Speaker 5:40

yeah, yeah,

Tori Brewton 5:41

I agree with that. I will

Hannah Lane 5:43

say I've known about your name for a while. I haven't been able to see it. Because, while I'm an enthusiast of anime, and I will just like, binge a bunch, it just what the timeline for me to be able to see the movie wasn't like during a time where I was watching anime, but I've known about it and I've wanted to watch it for a while, so I'm very, very happy for this opportunity.

Tori Brewton 6:11

And I, on the other hand, don't know shit about anime, and rarely watch it unless it's Studio Ghibli, which I just started watching, like, a year and a half ago, and also I'd never heard of this, and I went in completely blind the first time I watched, it was last night, and I attempted to text Hannah before I started it. I'm like, What are we doing? Are we watching this dubbed, or are we watching it, you know, regular Japanese, English subtitles. She didn't answer me in time. And I chose, I Googled it. So I googled, I was like, should I watch or should you should the should your name be watched, you know, dubbed or in Japanese? And Google was like, yeah, the dubbed version is great. Like, for a lot of it, like, it's, it's highly esteemed, or some shit like that. So I was like, Oh, perfect. I'll just do that because I'm too tired to read words. And I will say I watched it again today in Japanese, and that's all I'll say about that. And it was better, way better, way better. Okay, and I think it was way better. And I don't know, like, if I'm just, like, making things up in my head, but I was like, this is actually a different experience than I had last night. I I don't know, like, I hate dubbed stuff, and it really pained me last night to do it, but I just didn't know. And then she I was already in it, you know, and I just committed so I

Hannah Lane 7:46

used to be a subs purist. I will. I do understand that there's, like, a lot of amazing dubs that are now in anime like but because this story is so Japanese, I feel like it does a disservice to

Tori Brewton 8:02

have the Dubs. I feel like it is easier to watch a dub, especially because there's

Hannah Lane 8:07

a lot of things about the meanings of

Tori Brewton 8:08

words that's that's where, that's actually where I was like, oh, like, what? Like, I totally didn't pick up on that last night. I feel like it actually is easier to watch something dubbed, if it's like animated, like, I really couldn't have done it if it was, yeah, like humans on the television speaking like that is not something that I can do. I do not want, like an English, like an American, English voice over what's supposed to be like a French movie. That's not for me. But anyways, I would say for viewing this

Hannah Lane 8:43

in general, subs, yeah, there's a lot of like new there's a dubbing for English audience has come a long way in the past, like 20 years of anime popularity. This is me, like, actually, so like, there's a lot of amazing both voice actors in current anime that are English, voice actors that do like good trans like, for example, there's animes that which have black characters, and when they have black people doing the Dubs, they will use aa ve correctly, and it adds to the story. In this case, I I didn't. I wasn't curious to see the Dubs, but I really liked this movie.

Tori Brewton 9:28

Well, guess what? I saw it both ways.

Ansel Burch 9:31

So now we have an authority in the room. You did it so we don't have to, yeah,

Unknown Speaker 9:36

don't definitely do that, but I hear we're supposed to party.

Ansel Burch 9:43

Yeah. So here at Time to party, we take our movie in three different ways. For those of you longtime listeners, we're actually changing up episode three, so pay close attention and don't zone out for the whole thing. But here in the first episode, we are going to be handing out some party favors in the form of. Drinking and smoking rules to go along with your watch or re watch of the movie. Remember, these are a la carte, and we're not the boss of you. You can drink or smoke whatever you want, apple juice, water, good vibes, hard booze, whatever that's that's on you. That's we take no responsibility. But the most important thing is to know that, since we're going to hand out quite a few rules here, take them all a cart, pick pick a couple rules, and if you watch it together as a group, maybe everybody can get their own bespoke rules. My personal favorite is to go a at the screen every time it's your rule. It makes it a nice communal experience. Our second episode, we are going to review the movie and talk about all of the spoilery details that we want to get into. And then in the third episode, each of us gets five minutes to talk about something that we are passionate about right now. And for me, it's going to be something specifically in the movie. So that's our old edutainment we'll live on in the hosts of the show, but our guests get to talk about what they're interested in right now, or what they're working on, or the thing they've been talking about at parties, or that weird thing they fell down a Wikipedia rabbit hole yesterday. I'm not the boss of them either, as it turns out. So, you know, I the modicum of control that I once had I have relinquished to this pure madness for the sake of entertainment. So let's go ahead and get started with Episode One, with our drinking and smoking rules. Yeah, something just happened in the background

Tori Brewton 11:35

that I didn't see, like you're

Unknown Speaker 11:37

no, it might have been somebody have

Tori Brewton 11:40

an accident out back?

Hannah Lane 11:42

I genuinely have no idea, and I'm too afraid to find out. But okay, gimlet is still here. Gimlet is the name of my cat, or is one of my two cats. She's in a box behind me, and she is unmoved. So it can't be that important.

Ansel Burch 11:57

There you go. That's That's the true mark of danger if the cat has been upset.

Tori Brewton 12:02

Yes, yeah. Okay, so what's your rule?

Ansel Burch 12:04

Ansel, actually, I should let you guys go first, because I feel like one of you may have picked one of the rules that I have picked. Okay, so how about Tori? How about you start us off with our first rule,

Tori Brewton 12:17

the boob grabbing

Unknown Speaker 12:18

every time. All right, every time

Tori Brewton 12:22

this boy wakes up, he's like, you know, and I get it. I get it, honestly. I get it. I do it. I do I don't know why you wouldn't do it if you had it. Like it's a whatever it is, what it is.

Ansel Burch 12:35

I'm glad to hear that you do do it, because I would,

Hannah Lane 12:38

yeah, no. Like, yeah, yeah. Every time a boob is grabbed, take a drink.

Ansel Burch 12:46

Take a drink. That would be a good one for like, a nice, deep rip, because it doesn't happen all that often, but it's enough.

Tori Brewton 12:56

No, it happens enough.

Ansel Burch 12:58

Yeah. Hannah, how about you? What's your first rule?

Hannah Lane 13:03

So, because I watch anime, okay,

Ansel Burch 13:12

what's about to happen?

Hannah Lane 13:15

I was surprised when there were three different times in which they played music like it was an outro on a TV show, versus an actual like movie. Because usually, like, I've seen movies, they'll just have like movie moments. And there's like three distinct times where, like the music, which is beautiful, played like it was introducing a television series. So that's where I would put your giant bong rips, like a montage of events and stuff, like music is louder than them. Like that.

Tori Brewton 13:55

I like that. I like it too.

Hannah Lane 13:57

But I also was just like, I don't, I don't know, I especially the first mini series. Yeah. I was like, Is this a mini series? They condense? Well, it

Tori Brewton 14:07

was long, okay. It was like, it to me, it felt like it had two distinct parts. And I was like, kind of like, okay, I it was, it was long,

Unknown Speaker 14:19

yeah, it was long.

Tori Brewton 14:20

But, yeah, yeah, hour 52 I think, right? I don't know. I might have just made that up. Don't listen to me,

Ansel Burch 14:27

yeah, something like that, yeah.

Hannah Lane 14:28

But that's, that's like, a bomb Party rule, because I think that you can, like, rip the entire song and then it sets you up for new stuff. I don't know. I'm from California,

Ansel Burch 14:42

that's fair. You got some pro pro

Tori Brewton 14:44

maybe, like a gravity bong scenario,

Unknown Speaker 14:46

yeah, there you go. I This one's

Ansel Burch 14:49

that's cool. That's cool. I wanted to give you guys a sip and rule, and this is a real sip and rule, because otherwise you will absolutely fuck yourself up. And that is a. Every time we get a sliding door, oh

Tori Brewton 15:03

my gosh. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. What is up with that little sister? She loves to slam them doors. I was like, that was actually I was gonna mention that. And I was like, well, this doesn't matter, but why was that little sister slamming doors all around that house, and the fact that they were sliding, yes, and also, I mean, they were sliding even when she wasn't slamming them. So thank you for that.

Hannah Lane 15:29

I mean, Tori, you are

Tori Brewton 15:30

little sister, and I know you

Hannah Lane 15:33

definitely are the slamming doors little sister.

Ansel Burch 15:38

Wow. So something that I think we should talk about in in episode two is sliding doors, because I think they're there on purpose. And I don't know if this is a thing in Japanese nomenclature, but it's a common trope in in American movie culture to talk about sliding doors moments, which are these inconsequential moments that alter the trajectory of future moments is that we tend to see sliding doors from the movie, sliding doors exactly so and so. The thing I wonder is, are we seeing those moments in the movie when the doors are sliding when we see that sliding door? Is that giving us a clue that this is an inconsequential thing that leads to a larger consequence or a larger theme. So that's something to talk about for later, but that's part of why I picked it as a drinking rule for this movie, Hannah, if you'd like to go next, yeah.

Hannah Lane 16:32

Also just alert so the two people that I'm talking with can see that my second cat has joined the chat, but because we're in the party zone, so now I am in the room with my two cat, gimlet and Amaro, because they are high spirited liquors. Okay? So I had drink every time of somebody else recognizes that they weren't themselves. So drink every time somebody is like you were weird, or that's not you, or are you dreaming?

Ansel Burch 17:22

That's yeah, are you half asleep? Was a good one. I liked that. That came up a bunch. I also have

Hannah Lane 17:29

drink every time you see the comet.

Ansel Burch 17:33

See the comet was one on my list as well. I think that sounds No, that's, that's a very good one. Or the zoom out of the crater, yeah, or zoom out of the crater, yeah, almost as though that's going to become important. It was weird how often that came up. So my my corollary to every time you see the crater is every time we get just absolute landscape porn, where they need to take a few moments to just appreciate this matte painting that somebody did

Tori Brewton 18:04

running through the forest and the Japanese maples are, like, pristine I

Hannah Lane 18:13

like, they did such a good job with the visuals of like scenery and like, there's some times where, like, Oh yeah, it's pretty but this really just, it almost gave it a taste in how detailed it was. And I know I really loved how they were drawing the scenery. Let's see here. Do you have any other rules? Because I can come up with a few too.

Ansel Burch 18:47

Well, that's we don't need to come up with more. Well, these are some really good drinking and smoking rules. I think, I think we've done a good job of covering things that you're going to see a lot, and we've covered a couple things that you might not otherwise have noticed until later. So those are great, both good categories for for drinking and smoking. Rule here at Time to party, pick a couple of those to be yours. Pick a friend to do the other ones if you want, or if you feel so inclined, get yourself a chance to watch the movie. I watched it on HBO. Where did you guys end up watching it? So I

Tori Brewton 19:17

Tori here. I um, I first watched it last night, you know, in in the English dub, via a streaming service, okay? Like, not like an illegal stream, not like on any type of platform, right? We stand

Unknown Speaker 19:35

pirates on the high seas,

Tori Brewton 19:37

yeah, little like pirate bay action, um. And then today, I watched it on my computer, on HBO,

Ansel Burch 19:45

okay, okay, so it's available from both of those options,

Tori Brewton 19:50

certainly, although I don't condone illegal activity, never have

Hannah Lane 19:58

look you. Oh, it just happened to come across your screen. Nobody were you to do? Yeah, what were you to do? I got rid of HBO Max when they got rid of Infinity Train. And I feel bad because like, there's no like, there's no good options anymore, but I did. I did pay to rent it from Amazon.

Speaker 2 20:27

Oh, you paid Jeff. I paid Jeff. That's twice in

Ansel Burch 20:33

one week for us all roads lead to a billionaire to

Hannah Lane 20:36

Yeah, we also paid Jeff earlier this week to pay

Tori Brewton 20:40

the holiday and tell me why the holiday is not on a streaming service for free. That's crazy, and it feels honestly like an attack on women, as if we haven't had enough this year. That's crazy for the holiday to not be available on any of these services. That is wild. I I'm just

Hannah Lane 20:59

saying I support the idea of this being a conspiracy.

Ansel Burch 21:04

So for all of you who are about to watch the movie, I hope you have a great time with it. It sounds like we did and we're about to review it. So join us next week for our full review. Full spoilers ahead. So get your view in before you listen to the next episode. You can find us on the internet. I am at the indecisionist on all the meta properties, as well as all the other social medias I can be bothered to be on, which is mostly blue sky, although you can also find us on letterboxed, where you can see all of the movies that we have watched and all the movies that we're thinking about watching. Hannah Lane 21:47

My name is Hannah. I'm going to go ahead and say, Come listen to our podcast at total saps, but find us at total saps on Tiktok, where you'll see me post animatics, and then we will also have a letterboxed account, because that seems like a good idea, and I'm stealing it.

Tori Brewton 22:07

It does seem a good idea, and maybe we

Ansel Burch 22:09

can officially blue sky calls them posts,

Tori Brewton 22:12

Oh, disgusting, because

Ansel Burch 22:14

it's, I mean, it's better than Skeets,

Tori Brewton 22:17

honestly, at least they could say Skeets with their chest. That's fair, put some effort like or they could have made a different a better name. Anyways, I'm Tori. I am also on social media, just straight up at V roots. You know, we don't have Twitter anymore, just Instagram, then, I guess, oh, and tick tock. And, you know, total saps.com exists. It's got all the links in there, the necessary links. There's a Patreon. I believe there's links to the tick tock. And wait, it's just tick tock. We're new, yeah, we decided not to do Instagram. Yeah, I'm sorry. Instagram is dying.

Ansel Burch 23:00

It's been dead. Don't bother. This has been an indecisionist production. Thanks to April maralba for our podcast art and to Marlon longid of Marlon and the shakes for our amazing theme song.
